How to Store Cheese Properly

Proper storage is crucial to maintaining the flavor and quality of your cheese. To keep it fresh, store it in the refrigerator in the vegetable crisper drawer, where the temperature is slightly warmer and more humid. Wrap the cheese in wax paper or parchment paper, then place it in a resealable plastic bag to prevent it from drying out.

Hard cheeses like cheddar and parmesan can be stored for up to six months, while soft cheeses like brie and camembert should be consumed within a week or two. Blue cheeses should be stored separately to prevent their strong flavors from transferring to other cheeses.

It’s important to let cheese breathe, so avoid wrapping it in plastic wrap or aluminum foil for long periods of time. Instead, opt for cheese-specific storage bags or containers that allow for air circulation. Remember to check your cheese regularly for any signs of mold or spoilage, and discard it if necessary.
